What LitFin will not do

The list we publish about ourselves.

LitFin reads a lender's credit files, appraises them, and leaves a record of how the judgement was formed. This page is about none of that. It is the other list.

Here is the other list. It is short, it is exact, and it is substantially the list your own third party risk reviewer will assemble about us in the first diligence pass. We would rather hand it over than have it built behind us. None of these is a feature we have not got round to. Each is a line the product is built not to cross, because crossing it would make LitFin something an institution could not safely put beside its own credit process.

What LitFin does is told once, elsewhere. Nothing is explained again here, except where a refusal cannot be stated without naming the thing it refuses.

The list itself

  1. It does not lend.

LitFin puts up no money and takes no position in any facility. It has no book, no stake in the transaction and no interest in how it turns out. The exposure stays entirely with the institution.

  2. It does not move money.

No disbursement, no repayment, no collection, no custody of funds at any point, and no instruction to any payment rail on anyone's behalf. There is no account in the middle.

  3. It does not make the lending decision.

The decision is taken by your people and owned by your institution. Nothing it produces is an instruction, and nothing it produces commits anybody to anything.

  4. It transmits nothing to any bureau, registry, authority or regulator.

It does not transmit to any bureau, registry, authority or regulator, and it does not write to any credit record. Where a question goes to an applicant or back to the sender, an officer sends it. It reads the sanctions and politically exposed person lists those bodies publish, which is a one way read of public material and sends them nothing about your file or your borrower.

  5. It writes to no real credit record.

It creates no entry in any credit history, anywhere, about anybody. What it produces is a document your institution receives, and where that document goes afterwards is your decision.

  6. No score, grade, band or rating of a borrower

LitFin returns no score, no grade, no band and no rating of a borrower on any surface, and no version of one in disguise. Not a rescale, not a percentile, not a letter, not a star, not a colour band, not a bar filling toward a threshold. The one figure an appraisal carries about its own work says how much of the evidence packet the analysis rests on. It rates the analysis and never the borrower.

  7. It is not a portfolio monitoring system, a provisioning engine or an early warning system.

It works one file at a time. It does not watch a book, set a limit, test resilience under stress, calculate expected credit loss, stage an exposure, size a provision or recommend a write-off. It runs beside the systems that do those things and replaces none of them.

  8. It does not rate, rank or score a person.

The record of how a file was prepared and how it was worked answers how a judgement was formed, never how a person is performing. It carries no index, no overall figure about a person, no rating and no ranking of anybody, and counts of what happened are facts about a file rather than a number about a human being.

  9. It claims no certification it does not hold.

No accreditation, no audit badge, no assurance standard, no uptime promise. LitFin is not accredited by, partnered with or endorsed by any fund, development institution or standards body. It does not measure carbon, it does not score readiness, and it runs no accreditation workflow. Appraising a file against somebody's criteria is a lens we apply, not a relationship we hold.

  10. It does not claim to have read what it could not read.

A read that covers part of a file says so. No conclusion is drawn over a gap, and no gap is quietly rounded off.

  11. It does not ask to be taken on trust.

An appraisal is a document you interrogate, not an instruction you follow. When it is wrong, the working is there to find it in.

Where a file you send us goes

Before you send anything, the first question is where the file sits, who can open it, how long it is kept and on what legal basis it is handled. That is answered on the data protection page, because a summary of it is worth nothing to the person who has to sign it off.

And what it does do
